What is a pupillary distance (PD) measurement and how can I measure it?

Your pupillary distance, also referred to as PD, is the distance in millimeters between the center of each pupil. This measurement is used to ensure that your prescription is properly centered within your lens. While not always provided by your optometrist, it is often measured by an optician when you place an order for new glasses. We highly recommend you that you request it the next time you see your eye care professional.

If it is not written on your prescription, we can measure it from a photo of you!

Here are a few useful tips to take the perfect PD picture:

  • Remove your glasses and make sure you are in a well-lit area so that your pupils are clearly visible.
  • Make sure your head is straight and you are looking directly into the camera.
  • Place a card the size of a credit card directly under your nose (the card should touch your face and not hide your nose).
  • Place yourself 30 centimeters away from the camera (about a ruler’s length).

Then, you can upload your PD picture to your account or send it to us by email to support@bonlook.com!
